A few fall sports seasons are winding down with their postseasons currently underway and while those are going on, two girls winter sports seasons are now underway for area schools. Last week, the Vandalia girls wrestling team got practice underway for the new season and the team is under new leadership as former VCHS wrestler and two-time IWCOA girls state champion and one-time state runner-up Morgan Dothager is now serving as the girls head coach. The Lady Vandals will have their season opener on November 11 as they compete in the 618 Scramble in Edwardsville.
Today marks the first day that girls basketball practices can get underway. South Central will have a new face at the helm of their program as Branden Wright takes over as head coach while Altamont coach Holly Borah returns for her second year. Vandalia’s Mark Rinehart begins his fourth season with the Lady Vandals while long time coaches Tim Pasley (BSE), Marc Bain (CHBC) and Misty Mezo (Ramsey-Mulberry Grove) also return to their programs. The first area girls basketball games will be held on November 16 and 17.
