Altamont's Dunaway and Winter Both Take First in Home Cross Country Meet, Winter Sets New Course Record

Altamont cross country held its first home meet of the season on Monday after their previous scheduled home meet was canceled at the beginning of September and two Altamont runners took home first place honors for the meet. In the girls race, freshman Reagan Winter outran senior Lena Goebel of Dieterich to not only take first place, but to also break the course record for girls at Ballard Nature Center. Winter ran a time of 18:42.40 which topped the previous record set five years ago by Altamont’s Grace Nelson at 19 minutes flat. In the boys race, sophomore Kelton Dunaway won a close race over rival Ben Hille of Windsor/Stew-Stras with a time of 16:09.6 which was a 36 second personal best as well. Teammate John Manley finished in 10th place in the meet with a time of 18:41.70. The Altamont cross country team will be back action on Thursday at the Cumberland County Invite held at Lake Land College in Mattoon before they are back at home on Tuesday, this time hosting the National Trail Conference Championship at Effingham County Fairgrounds for the first time.
