
Altamont and Windsor/Stew-Stras paced each other with five hits and despite a 10 strikeout performance from Zaine Miller on the mound, the Indians came up just short in a 5-3 loss to the Hatchets in the quarterfinals of the National Trail Conference Baseball Tournament on Monday. With the game’s first two innings going by scoreless, the Indians run scored in the to of the third inning opened up the game’s scoring. Kale Davis led the inning off with a line drive single and moved up to second on a groundout by Carson Milleville. Davis stole third and then scored on a groundout by Reed Stuemke as Altamont took the 1-0 lead. It was a short lived lead as WSS tied things up with a run in the bottom of third inning, 1-1. After a scoreless fourth inning, WSS took advantage of three errors committed by the Indians in the bottom of the fifth inning and scored four runs in the frame to take a 5-1 lead. Altamont was able to get two of those runs back in the top of the sixth inning with a leadoff single by Stuemke and a double by Miller had runners a the corners and Stuemke scored on a sacrifice fly by Wolff. A groundout by Blake Berg that followed brought in Miller to score and Altamont cut the Hatchets lead to 5-3. That was it for the game though as neither team could score over the next two half innings and WSS finished off the 5-3 win to advances to the tournament’s semifinal round to face #7 seed 0Dieterich who upset #2 seed North Clay on Monday.
