Altamont baseball may not have scored until the fifth inning, but their three runs in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings were more than enough in the end as the Indians beat Woodlawn 9-4 on Saturday. After neither team was able to score in the first two innings, Woodlawn opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning with a run for a 1-0 lead that the Cardinals held until the top of the fifth inning. The Indians got a one out single from Reed Stuemke and a walk drawn by Zaine Miller to put runners at first and second before Kaiden Wolff doubled on a line drive to left field to bring in Stuemke and tie the game at 1-1 with Miller advancing up to third base. After Altamont picked up their second out and runner still at second and third, Parker Bell reached base on an error and both Miller and Wolff were able to score and give the Indians their first lead of the game, 3-1. That lead was short live though as Woodlawn pushed two runs across the plate in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game up again at 3-3. Altamont responded quickly with Carson Milleville hit a leadoff solo home run to take the lead back 4-3. Stuemke then drew a walk and Zaine Miller hit an RBI single to left field to bring Stuemke around to score and extend the lead to 5-3. With two outs in the inning and after Miller stole both second and third bases, Bell again reached base on an error and Miller scored from third on the play as Altamont had Woodlawn doubled up 6-3 midway through the sixth. The Cardinals got one run back to cut the Indians lead to 6-4 but that was it for Woodlawn’s scoring in the game. Altamont again struck early in the top of the seventh inning as Kale Davis led off with a line drive single to left field and Milleville drew a walk to put two runners aboard. Stuemke singled to score Davis and Miller reached base on an error and that allowed Milleville to score for an 8-4 Altamont lead. The Indians added on one final run when Stuemke scored on a wild pitch to make it 9-4 before holding Woodlawn scoreless in the bottom of the seventh to close out the win. The Indians are now 8-11 on the season and will begin play in the National Trail Conference Baseball Tournament today as the #6 seed with a quarterfinal matchup at #3 Windsor/Stew-Stras to be played at Stew-Stras High School at 4:00pm.
