The South Central Cougars led 6-2 going into the bottom of the fourth inning, but couldn’t hang on falling to the Neoga Indians 8-7 on Friday evening. The Indians took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning before the Cougars responded in the top of the second when Colton Tockstein scored on a passed ball and Sebastian Kruger scored on a Luke Shumate groundout to tie the game at 2-2. That score held until the top of the fourth inning when the Cougars took a 3-2 lead on an Aiden Hoover RBI single and Ryker Dodson hit a 3 RBI double to extend the South Central lead to 6-2. The lead would be short-lived as Neoga responded with a 4-run fourth inning, tying the game at 6-6. The Indians then scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning taking a 7-6 lead. A sacrifice bunt from Hoover scored Shumate and tied the game up again at 7-7 but the Indians retook the lead in the top of the sixth inning, 8-7, and South Central was retired in order in the seventh inning to suffer the one run loss. South Central is now 9-8 on the season and 3-4 in the NTC. The Cougars will have a quick turnaround hosting Teutopolis Saturday morning.
