Vandalia Jr. High baseball will play for a Regional title for the second straight year after picking up a 5-2 win over St. Jacob Triad in the semifinals of their own Vandalia 3A Regional on Saturday. The Crusaders opened the game’s scoring in the top of the second inning plating a pair of runs on a bases loaded walk and a wild pitch to lead the Vandals 2-0. Vandalia got one of those runs back in the bottom half of the inning when they scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the inning to cut the Triad lead to 2-1. An inning later, Brooks Bost grounded out to bring in another run and tie the game up at 2-2. The Vandals took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning when an RBI line drive from Kayden Tompkins scored a run and put Vandalia up 3-2. In the bottom of the fifth, Vandalia tacked on two more runs with one coming on another Tompkins RBI line drive single for a 5-2 lead. That 5-2 lead would hold up as the final as both teams were held scoreless through the sixth and seventh innings. Vandalia is now 16-1-1 on the season and will face Highland in the Regional Championship game on Wednesday at 4:30pm at FNB-Pit Field.
