South Central and Altamont turned in another big battle on Monday night as the Lady Cougars held off the Lady Indians to get a two set win 25-16, 25-19 in National Trail Conference action on Monday night. Altamont was able to ger out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first set before South Central got going and the teams found themselves tied up at 7-7 and 11-11 before the Lady Cougars took their first lead of the set at 12-11. After Altamont tied things back up at 12-12, South Central regained the lead and pushed out to an 18-15 lead before closing out the 23-16 set win. In the second set, the Lady Cougars got off to a quick start for a 5-1 lead but Altamont battled back for a 7-5 run to cut it to a two point deficit, trailing South Central 10-8. After a timeout by the Lady Cougars, South Central went on a 9-4 run to go up 19-12. The Lady Indians got a few timely kills late to stay within striking distance before the Lady Cougars were able to get set point and the 25-19 win. South Central is now 8-2 on the season and 2-2 in NTC play. The Lady Cougars will be off until Saturday when they compete in the Vandalia Lady Vandals Tournament. Altamont drops to 2-9-1 on the season and 0-3 in the NTC. They have another NTC matchup tonight as they travel to Neoga.
