And, after the extra point failed, they trailed 7 to 6. The Vandals would then take their first lead of the game with 3:47 remaining in the 2nd quarter with Qwentyn Stombaugh running for another TD. And, after the 2 point conversion failed, they led 12 to 7 and would carry that lead into the 2nd half.
The Vandals would make it a 2 score game with 1:58 remaining in the 3rd quarter when Stombaugh connected with Padric McDowell for a 9 yard TD. The point after was good and gave the Vandals a 19 to 7 lead. Southwestern then would drive deep into Vandals territory looking to cut into the lead. But, Cole Yarbrough would intercept a pass at the 13 yard line and then run it back for an 87 yard pick-6 to give the Vandals a 26 to 7 lead with 9:28 remaining. The Vandals would tack on one more score when Stombaugh connected with Kendall Nestrick on a 56 yard TD with 6:05 remaining to get it to the game’s final score of 32 to 7.
