The South Central Cougars had the tying run on base in the bottom of the seventh inning, but could not come through, falling to the Dieterich Movin’ Maroons 11-9 on Friday night. The Maroons got off to a hot start, scoring 6 runs in the top of the first inning, taking a 6-0 lead. The Cougars responded in the bottom of the first with three straight singles from Luke Shumate, Aiden Hoover, and Ryker Dodson, cutting the deficit to 6-1. After a scoreless top half of the second, South Central got back with an RBI single from Hoover, making the score 6-2. Dieterich added 3 runs in the top of the third to extend their lead to 9-2. That score held until the bottom of the fourth when Dodson singled to score Hoover, making the score 9-3. A bases-loaded walk, a hit-by-pitch, and a passed ball capped off a 4-run fourth for the Cougars, making the score 9-6. South Central continued to draw closer in the bottom of the fifth when Hoover scored on a wild pitch and an RBI single from Garrett Shumate, bringing the Cougars within a run, 9-8. A pair of walks and a sacrifice bunt put runners in scoring position to start the bottom of the sixth, and Luke Shumate tied the game at 9 with an RBI single. Dieterich came through with a 2-RBI single to take a 11-9 lead. The Cougars put the tying run on base with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but were unable to draw closer, falling to the Maroons 11-9. South Central is now 6-4 on the season and 2-3 in the NTC. The Cougars will be on the road Monday to take on T-Town.
