South Central Loses Late Lead in Loss to Odin/Patoka

The South Central Cougars used a 7-run fourth inning to take an 11-10 lead but could not hang on, falling to the Odin/Patoka Eagles 14-11 on Thursday night. The Eagles scored first with an RBI double in the top of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Cougars took the lead with a 3-RBI double from Luke Shumate in the bottom of the second making the score 3-1. The Eagles responded with a 5-run third to take 6-3 lead. South Central chipped away at the deficit in the bottom of the third with an RBI single from Ryker Dodson, cutting the deficit to 6-4. Odin/Patoka added a trio of runs in the top of the fourth inning, extending their lead to 10-4. After a pair of walks from Jordan Smith and Luke Shumate, a passed ball would allow Smith to score and cut the deficit to 10-5. Aiden Strobel reached on an error to allow Shumate and Aiden Hoover to score, cutting it to 10-7. A pair of walks to Dodson and Garrett Shumate loaded the bases for Sebastian Kruger, who hit a 2-RBI single, making the score 10-9. A wild pitch allowed Shumate to score, tying the game at 10, before a passed ball allowed Kruger to score, giving South Central an 11-10 lead. That score held until the top of the sixth inning when the Eagles scored three runs to take a 13-11 lead, before tacking on an insurance run in the seventh to extend that lead to 14-11. The Cougars were unable to crack the scoreboard the final two innings, falling to the Eagles 14-11. South Central is now 6-3 on the season. The Cougars will be back at home Friday to take on Dieterich in an NTC showdown.
