Altamont Gets NTC Win Behind 4-RBI Night From Wolff


The Altamont Indians used a big 3-run seventh inning and a 4 RBI performance from Kaiden Wolff to come away with a 10-6 win over the Brownstown-St. Elmo Bombers on Tuesday night. The Indians got on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning when Zaine Miller drew a bases loaded walk and Wolff hit a sacrifice fly, giving Altamont a 2-0 lead. BSE responded in the bottom of the first with a pair of RBI singles from Logan Lach and Zayden Gillespie tying the game at 2-2. Two batters later, Dodge Willms hit into a double play that allowed Lach to score and give the Bombers a 3-2 lead. Tucker Davison capped off the 4-run first inning for BSE with an RBI single, extending the BSE lead to 4-2. The Indians were able to put another run across the plate in the top of the second inning when Kale Davis scored on an error, cutting the Indians deficit to 4-3. That score held until the top of the fifth inning when Lucas Berg reached on an error, allowing Mason Everett to score and tying up the game again at 4-4. Altamont took the lead with an RBI triple from Davis, and Reed Stuemke capped off the 3-run frame with an RBI groundout extending the Altamont lead to 6-4. Wolff drove in his second run of the game with an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning pushing the Indians lead out further to 7-4. The Bombers would chip away at the deficit in the bottom of the sixth with a pair of RBI singles from Lach and Gillespie cutting to a 7-6 game with the Bombers trailing by just one run. Altamont got a trio of insurance runs in the top of the 7th inning with a 2-RBI double from Wolff and an RBI single from Blake Berg, extending the lead to 10-6 and Everett tossed a scoreless bottom half of the seventh inning, securing the 10-6 victory. Altamont is now 2-3 on the season and 2-1 in the NTC. The Indians will be back home on Thursday to take on Ramsey. BSE is now 5-2 on the season and 1-2 in the NTC. The Bombers will be on the road on Friday for an NTC matchup with Neoga at Grimes Park in Mattoon.
