BSE Remains Undefeated Behind 3-Hit Game From Gillespie


The Brownstown/St. Elmo Bombers used a 3-hit performance from Jayce Gillespie to come away with a 6-4 win over the Odin/Patoka/Sandoval Eagles. OPS scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. That score held until the top of the fourth when Jayce Gillespie and Logan Lach reached base on a single and a walk to start the frame. Jayce Gillespie later scored on a wild pitch, and one batter later, Nolan Wilhour grounded out, allowing Lach to score, tying the game at 2. The Bombers took the lead in the top of the fifth inning when Jayce Gillespie reached on a two-out single and would come home to score after Lach reached on an error, making the score 3-2. BSE added on in the top of the sixth inning when Dodge Willms scored on a wild pitch, extending the Bombers lead to 4-2. OPS scored on an RBI double, cutting the deficit to 4-3, but BSE got a pair of insurance runs with a 2-run home run from Jayce Gillespie, making the score 6-3. The Eagles got a run back in the bottom of the seventh, but Calvin Voelker was able to get the possible tying run to pop out, securing the 6-4 win. The Bombers are now 3-0 on the season. BSE will be back at home on Tuesday for their NTC Opener with Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.
