The Brownstown/St. Elmo Bombers jumped out to an 8-0 lead and took advantage of 19 walks to come away with a 23-4 win over the Mulberry Grove Aces on Thursday afternoon. BSE got on the board in the top of the first inning when Calvin Voelker walked, advanced to second and third on a passed ball, before coming home to score on a wild pitch, giving the Bombers a 1-0 lead. An RBI double from Nolan Wilhour and an RBI single from Dodge Willms pushed the BSE lead to 3-0 before a bases-loaded walk from Sullivan Smith and a pair of RBI singles from Voelker and Jayce Gillespie capped off the 8-run frame for the Bombers. The Aces got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when a balk allowed Max Redou to score, making the score 8-1. The Bombers got a run back in the top of the second inning when Smith drew a bases-loaded walk, making the score 9-1. BSE exploded for 7 runs in the top of the third inning when Jayce Gillespie, Zayden Gillespie, Wilhour, and Willms all scored on passed balls, a pair of bases-loaded walks to Paxton Childress and Drayden Bogart, and a bases-loaded hit by pitch to Tucker Davison extended the Bombers lead to 15-1. Mulberry Grove answered with a 3-run bottom of the third inning when Liam Stief hit a 2-RBI single, and Jace Holloway scored on a wild pitch, to cut the deficit to 16-4. The Bombers would draw 7 bases-loaded walks or hit by pitches in the top of the 4th inning, and Willms tossed a scoreless bottom of the 4th, securing the Bombers 23-4 victory. BSE is now 2-0 on the season. The Bombers will be on the road on Monday to take on Odin/Patoka/Sandoval.
