The South Central Cougars used a big 4-run third inning to help come away with a 10-1 win over the Christ Our Rock Lutheran Stallions on Wednesday afternoon at Lions Field. After a throwing error allowed the Stallions to take an early 1-0 lead, the Cougars responded with a Garrett Shumate sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1. South Central took the lead in the bottom of the second after a pair of walks and a sacrifice bunt; Luke Shumate ripped a 2-RBI single, giving the Cougars a 3-1 lead, before an RBI single from Ryker Dodson extended the lead to 4-1. South Central broke the game open in the bottom of the third inning when Landon Lotz doubled to score Aiden Strobel and Sebastian Kruger, making the score 6-1. Two batters later, Dodson hit a sacrifice fly to score Lotz, and a passed ball would allow Luke Shumate to score, capping off the 4-run frame and pushing the Cougars’ lead to 8-1. That score held until the bottom of the 6th inning, when Strobel smoked a 2-RBI single, extending the lead to 10-1. Dodson fired a scoreless 7th inning, securing the 10-1 win for South Central. The win makes the Cougars 1-0 on the season. South Central will be back home on Saturday to take on Woodlawn.
