Vandals put up 61 points---including 27 unanswered over the final 15 mins of the game--- in their win over North Mac on Senior Night

It wasn’t pretty or that easy, but the Vandals got the offense rolling to the tune of 9 total touchdowns and 61 total points as they get a 61 to 22 win over North Mac on Senior Night at Mark Greer Field.

The North Mac Panthers (1-7) won the opening coin toss and chose to defer to the 2nd half, giving the opening kick off to the Vandals.   The Vandals cashed in on that quickly as they scored at the 10:38 mark of the 1st quarter when Qwentyn Stombaugh connected with Paddy McDowell on a 10 yard TD pass and the 2 point conversion was good, giving the Vandals an early 8-0 lead.  But, North Mac would answer that TD with one of their own when Panther QB Carson Powell scored on a 1 yard run with 4:52 remaining in the 1st quarter and their 2 point conversion was good–tying the game at 8.  The Vandals would then score 3 TDs to open up the lead to 26 to 8 with 5:47 remaining in the 2nd quarter.  North Mac would then score at the 4:28 mark and convert on their 2 point conversion to get it to 26 to 16.  The Vandals would answer shortly after that to get it to 34 to 16 at halftime.

The 3rd quarter didn’t see a lot of offense.  North Mac would score with 3:12 remaining to get it to a 34 to 22 game–so a 2 score game with still 15:12 remaining on the clock.  But, the Vandals would get the offense flowing after that as they would score 27 unanswered points over the remainder of the game to end up with a 61 to 22 win on Senior Night at Mark Greer Field.  Qwentyn Stombaugh tossed 6 TD passes, Cole Yarbrough scored 3 receiving TDs, McDowell 2 and Brody Matthews scored 2 TDs on the ground in the game.  Qwentyn Stombaugh continues to add his name to the Vandals record books too.  He now has the most total yards of combined offense (7,392), most total Touchdowns (113) and most passing TD’s (72).

The Vandals are now 6-2 on the season.  They will wrap up their regular season this coming Friday night on the road as they will travel to Springfield to play the Lanphier Lions.  This will be the Vandals first non-conference regular season game since playing Carlyle on September 10th of 2021.
