The Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Bobcats scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a late lead they would not relinquish, coming away with a 4-2 win over the Brownstown-St. Elmo Bombers on Monday. After a scoreless inning, the Bombers got on the board when Dodge Willms reached on an error, allowing Jayce Gillespie to score, giving BSE a 1-0 lead. That score held until the bottom of the fourth inning when Isaac Wells scored on a wild pitch, tying the game at 1. The Bombers took the lead in the top of the fifth on an RBI single from Calvin Voelker, making the score 2-1. The Bobcats tied the game in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single from Max Kircher, before an RBI double from Wells gave CHBC a 3-2 lead. Wells came across to score on an error, extending the Bobcats lead to 4-2. The Bombers threatened to score in the sixth and seventh innings, putting two runners on base, but were unable to cash in, falling to CHBC 4-2. The Bobcats are now 4-10 on the season. CHBC will be back home on Tuesday, taking on North Clay. BSE is now 9-9 on the season. The Bombers will be at home Tuesday to take on South Central.
