The Brownstown-St. Elmo Bombers jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back, earning a 9-5 win over the Woodlawn Cardinals in the EIC-MTC Tournament on Thursday. The Bombers got on the board in the top of the first inning when Calvin Voelker and Jayce Gillespie scored on a pair of passed balls giving them a 2-0 lead. Two batters later Nolan Wilhour ripped an RBI double extending the lead to 3-0. The Bombers extended their lead in the top of the second inning with a pair of RBI singles from J. Gillespie and Logan Lach, extending the lead to 6-0. The Bombers offense kept moving in the top of third inning with a pair of leadoff singles from Wilhour and Zayden Gillespie and walk by Gavin Schnarre to load the bases before a wild pitch, a groundout, and an RBI single from Voelker allowed all three to score pushing the BSE lead to 9-0. The Cardinals scored two runs in the third inning, one in the fourth, and two more in the fifth inning cutting the deficit to 9-5 but the Bombers were able to keep them off the board for the final two innings to secure the 9-5 win. With the win, BSE improves to 9-8 on the season and will be on the road on Monday to take on CHBC for the third time this season. The two teams have split their previous two meetings this season with BSE beating CHBC 7-2 in their first meeting on August 25 while CHBC beat the Bombers 9-2 on Wednesday night in the tournament.
