
The South Central Cougars snapped their 5-game losing streak on Friday, coming away with a 10-2 win over the North Clay Cardinals. The Cougars got on the board with a pair of RBI singles from Garrett Shumate and Colton Tockstein, giving them a 3-0 lead. Jordan Smith drew a bases-loaded walk, and a passed ball allowed Tockstein to score, extending the South Central lead to 5-0. The Cougars tacked on in the top of the third inning with a sacrifice fly from Luke Shumate and an RBI single from Aiden Hoover, extending the lead to 7-0. Hoover later came around to score on a passed ball, making the lead 8-0. North Clay began to chip away at the deficit in the bottom of the third inning with a pair of RBI hits, making the score 8-2. That score held until the top of the seventh inning, when a pair of RBI singles from Hoover and Ryker Dodson extended the lead to 10-2. Hoover put the game away in the bottom of the seventh, retiring the side in order, securing the 10-2 win. South Central is now 7-6 on the season and 3-4 in the NTC. The Cougars will be back on the road on Saturday morning for a doubleheader with Windsor/Stew-Stras and Woodlawn.
