The South Central Middle School Lady Falcons put up a late inning fight to try and overcome a seven run deficit but came up just short in a 10-8 loss to West Salem in the Hutsonville 1A Sectional Championship game on Tuesday night. The Lady Falcons got on the board early with a two-run home run from Alexa Gile giving South Central a 2-0 lead. West Salem pulled to within a run to make it 2-1 at the end of the first inning. After the Lady Falcons were held scoreless for two innings West Salem had an offensive outburst to the tune of eight runs to pull ahead of South Central 9-2. The Falcons responded with one run in the top of the fifth when Lexy Garrett tripled with one out and came around to score when she was driven in by Skylar Webster’s RBI single to cut it to 9-3. West Salem got that run back to get their lead back to seven runs, 10-3, in the bottom half of the inning though. South Central started to put things together in the top of the sixth inning with a leadoff single from Emory Burdine followed by a single from McKenna Mette. Ellie Williams walked to load the bases and with two outs, Raelyn Parker reached base on an error with one run coming in to score for South Central. In the next at bat, Webster reached base on an error as well with two runs scoring cutting the West Salem lead over the Falcons down to 10-6. The two out rally continued as Gile continued her big night at the plate with a two RBI single to cut the Lady Falcons deficit down further to 10-8 before a strikeout ended the rally. West Salem went three up, three down in the bottom of the sixth to bring South Central to the plate in the top of the seventh and with two outs, Rya Sidwell singled and Williams reached base on a dropped third strike to put runners at first and second but a strikeout again ended the inning and South Central’s comeback attempt was brought to a close. The Lady Falcons end their season with a record of 18-4.
