The Vandalia Vandals soccer team got a phenomenal 5-goal game from senior Nic Jackson, but it wasn’t enough falling to the East Alton/Wood River Oilers 7-5. The Vandals scored less than 4 minutes into the game when Jackson scored his first goal. EAWR tied the game at the 20:20 mark, before adding a pair of goals at the 8:41 and 6:37 marks, taking a 3-2 lead. Jackson found the back of the net on a free kick at the 2:42 mark, cutting the deficit to 3-2. The Oilers added to their lead 8 minutes into the second half, making the score 4-2, before taking a goal on at the 26:19 mark, extending their lead to 5-2. Less than a minute later, Jackson got a hat trick to cut the deficit to 5-3. EAWR tacked on a goal to push the lead back to 3, but Jackson scored his fourth and fifth goals to bring the Vandals back to within 1, 6-5. The Oilers would put the game away with a late goal at the 1:11 mark, and the Vandals were unable to find the back of the net, falling to the Oilers 7-5. Vandalia falls to 1-7 on the season. The Vandals will be back home today to take on Carlinville in an SCC matchup.
