The Vandalia Jr. High softball team used a big 4-run sixth inning and a solid pitching performance from Brylie Schmid to come away with a 10-1 win over the Meridian Jr. High Hawks, claiming their first Regional Championship in program history. Vandalia got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Hannah Stombaugh scored on a groundout from Schmid, giving them a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, Brenley Clay singled to score Brooklyn Burnam, extending the Lady Vandals lead to 2-0. Meridian got on the board with an RBI single in the top of the second inning, cutting the Vandalia lead down to 2-1. That score held until the bottom of the third, when the Lady Vandals tacked on a pair of runs off an RBI single from Summer Carpenter and an RBI groundout from Burnam, extending the Vandalia lead to 4-1. Vandalia continued to tack on in the bottom of the fourth with back-to-back doubles from Harper Goldsboro and Stombaugh, and added a run in the fifth with a double from Burnam, extending the lead to 6-1. The Lady Vandals broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth when Stombaugh drove in her second run of the game on a single, and Schmid and Burnam followed with RBI singles of their own, extending the lead to 10-1.
