BSE Can't Overcome 5-Run 6th in NTC Loss to Dieterich

The Brownstown-St. Elmo Bombers led 5-3 going into the bottom of the fifth but could not hang on, falling to the Dieterich Movin’ Maroons 11-7 on Tuesday. Dieterich scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead. BSE responded in the top of the second with a bases-loaded walk to Jayce Gillespie cutting the deficit to 2-1. Logan Lach reached on an error allowing Gavin Schnarre and Calvin Voelker to score giving the Bombers a 3-2 lead. That score held until the top of the fourth inning when Zayden Gillespie singled to score Sullivan Smith, extending their lead to 4-2. The Maroons scored on a bases-loaded hit by pitch, cutting BSE’s lead to 4-3. The Bombers got a run back in the top of the fifth when Schnarre singled to score Dodge Willms making the score 5-3. The Maroons retook the lead with a 3-run fifth and broke the game open with a 5-run sixth to take an 11-5 lead. BSE wouldn’t go away quietly with three straight singles from Schnarre, Voelker, and Jayce Gillespie, cutting the deficit to 11-7. The Bombers were unable to draw closer, falling to the Maroons 11-7. BSE is now 5-4 on the season and 1-4 in the NTC. BSE will be back in action on Thursday, taking on Christ Our Rock at Greenville University.
