Altamont cross country kicked off their season Saturday night competing in the Clinton Light It Up Invitational and had some big performances in the meet. Altamont’s lone girl competing in the Girls Varsity race for the meet, freshman Reagan Winter turned in a 16th place finish out of 170 runners in her debut high school meet with a time of 18:56.8 for the 3-mile course. Winter was one of three freshman to place in the top 20 of the stacked meet. On the boys side of the meet that saw 215 runners in the field for the Boys Varsity race, sophomore Kelton Dunaway was the Indians top finisher coming in 57th with a time of 16:39.9 shaving 43.8 seconds off of his best 3-mile course time from last season and improving just over a minute from last year’s meet. Sophomore John Manley finished in 168th with a time of 19:52.7 to shave 51.7 seconds off his best 3-mile course time from last season and improve by almost a minute and a half from last year’s meet. Junior Wyatt Wolff finished 188th with a time of 20:44.6 to improve his time from last year’s meet by 35.7 seconds. Altamont cross country will be back in action on Thursday when they host their first home meet of the season at Ballard Nature Center with Teutopolis, CHBC, Charleston, Effingham Windsor/Stew-Stras and Clay City/Flora in attendance.
