Altamont Comeback Attempt Falls Short in Loss to North Clay


The Altamont Indians scored 4 runs in the top of the sixth inning, but could not overcome a 4-run second inning, falling to the North Clay Cardinals 7-4. The Cardinals scored 4 runs in the second inning and added a run in the third to take an early 5-0 lead. North Clay added a run in the fifth, extending their lead to 6-0. The Indians got on the board in the top of the sixth inning when Zaine Miller singled to score Reed Stuemke. Two batters later, Miller came around to score on a single from Kaiden Wollf, cutting the deficit to 6-2. A pair of two-out hits from John Childerson and Xavier Logue capped off the 4-run sixth, cutting the North Clay lead to 6-4. North Clay would get an insurance run on the board in the bottom of the sixth, and Altamont would be retired in order in the top of the seventh, falling to the Cardinals 7-4. The Indians fall to 1-1 on the season, and 1-1 in the NTC. Altamont will be back home on Monday to take on Teutopolis.
