Brownstown-St. Elmo baseball continued their strong start to the fall baseball season picking up a 10-8 win over Wayne City at home on Thursday. After Wayne City took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, the Bombers quickly went to work putting up six runs of their own including two coming in on an RBI single by Zayden Gillespie and two more scoring on an RBI double by Dodge Willms as BSE went up 6-3. The Indians put up a run each in the second and third innings to close BSE’s lead to 6-5 but the Bombers edged their lead back out to two runs, 7-5. Wayne City again came up with a three-run inning retaking the lead 8-7 in the top of the fourth inning, but BSE again responded in the bottom half of the inning. The Bombers tied it up at 8-8 on an RBI triple by Z. Gillespie and an RBI groundout by Nolan Wilhour to pull ahead 9-8. After a scoreless inning and a half, BSE tacked on one final run in the bottom of the sixth inning scoring on a wild pitch to push their lead to 10-8 and held it for the win. BSE is now 5-0 on the season and will have a very tough test today as they go on the road to take on St. Anthony at Paul Smith Field in Effingham.
