For the second time in five days, the South Central Cougars earned an extra-inning walk-off win, defeating the Woodlawn Cardinals 4-3 on Wednesday night. Woodlawn scored a run in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. South Central got on the board in the bottom of the second inning when Sebastian Kruger singled to score Garrett Shumate, and a Landon Lotz sacrifice bunt allowed Aiden Strobel to score, giving the Cougars a 2-1 lead. That score held until the bottom of the sixth inning when Eli Hiestand scored on a throwing error, extending the South Central lead to 3-1. The Cardinals would not go away quietly in the top of the seventh inning, scoring a pair of runs to tie the game at 3-3, and held the Cougars scoreless in the bottom half to force extra innings. After a scoreless top of the eighth, Kruger reached on an error to start the bottom half and advanced to third after a pair of sacrifice bunts. One batter later, Ryker Dodson would single to score Kruger, giving the Cougars the 4-3 win. South Central is now 3-0 on the season. The Cougars will start NTC play on Friday when they take on Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 7 PM at Lions Field in Kinmundy.
