Girls Track and Field Newcomers of the Year:
Baileigh Starnes, Altamont – The freshman sprinter made a strong statement in her first year for the Lady Indians. She picked up seven top 4 finishes in the 100m Dash, six Top 3 finishes in the 200m Dash and didn’t finish lower than second place in the 400m Dash until the postseason when she ran a state qualifying time if 1:01.54 in the event to advances to the State Finals Meet where she placed 22nd with a time of 1:01.64. She also anchored the 4×100 and 4×300 teams to 12 top 2 finishes in the season.
Kara Bauer, Altamont – The freshman thrower split time between both track and softball but excelled in the shot put and discus rings despite running between the two sports. Bauer turned in 10 top 4 finishes in 19 chances and improved her distance in the discus by 22’ 11 inches during the season with her biggest throws coming during a double personal best day at the Newton Sectional where she placed third and had a state qualifying throw of 111’ to advance to the State Finals where she placed 35th in her first trip to the meet.
