Altamont Beats North Clay in Friday Night NTC Overtime Battle – Altamont outlasted North Clay 65-64 in overtime in a National Trail Conference battle that lived up to expectations. The Indians were able to get up 15-10 at the end of the first and after briefly losing the lead in the second quarter, went back up 26-23 at halftime. The Indians continued to lead 45-43 at the end of the third but the game would be tied up 53-53 with 30 seconds left in the game which would hold and send the game to overtime. After going up 60-53, the Indians couldn’t hold off the Cardinals and were tied up again at 64-64. With 3.1 seconds to go, Kade Milleville hit one of two free throws to put Altamont up 65-64 and a last second heave by North Clay was off the mark as Altamont grabbed the 65-64 win.
Vandalia Upsets St. Anthony in Overtime in Regional Semifinals – The Vandalia Vandals upset the #2-seeded Effingham St. Anthony Bulldogs, coming away with a 50-48 win in the semifinals of the IHSA Class 2A Vandalia Regional. Points were hard to come by in the first quarter, with the Bulldogs finding themselves up 15-10 after the first 8 minutes. The two teams would trade baskets in the second quarter, but St. Anthony would take a 29-22 halftime lead. Vandalia chipped away at the lead but still trailed 37-35 at the end of third quarter. The Bulldogs would jump out to a 9-point lead to start the fourth quarter, but Vandalia kept fighting back and Andrew Casey tied the game at 48-48 with 50 seconds left. A Bulldogs turnover would give the Vandals the ball back with 28 seconds left in regulation. After a timeout, Qwentyn Stombaugh’s possible game-winner fell short, but Carter Robbins came away with the rebound on the left baseline and just got the shot off in time to give the Vandals the 50-48 win to send the Vandals to the Regional Championship game.
