Our Pro Wire Athlete of the Week for the week of March 7 is the Vandalia High School Wrestling team.
Three weeks after the Vandals earned their trip the Dual Team State Tournament in Bloomington, they stormed into the quarterfinals and grabbed a 44-26 win over Chicago Hope Academy to advance to the semifinals and guarantee themselves a top 4 finish. Vandalia then got a big 54-21 win over Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley to punch their ticket to the Championship match. The Vandals battled hard but came up short to rival Coal City I the title match 43-23 to come home with second place. It marks the fifth time the Vandals have finished in the top 2 at Dual Team State with the Vandals also finishing in the top 4 for the last three years straight and bringing home a state trophy for the 12th time overall. The Vandals finished the 2025-2026 season at 29-3 in dual team action.
