Altamont and South Central Win, SEB Falls on First Night of NTC Softball Tournament


Altamont and South Central both picked up quarterfinal wins, while St. Elmo-Brownstown suffered a loss on the first night of the National Trail Conference Softball Tournament at Evergreen Park on Tuesday in Effingham. In the tournament’s Game 1, SEB trailed top seeded Windsor/Stew-Stras 3-0 after the first inning before the Hatchets scored 13 runs in the second inning to beat the Eagles 16-0 in three innings. In Game 2, South Central jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning and went up 7-0 before North Clay was able to get on the board to cut it to 7-1. The Lady Cougars put up four more runs over the fourth and fifth innings to close out the 11-1 win. In Game 3, Altamont and Dieterich battled for four scoreless innings before the Lady Indians put up four runs in the fifth inning to lead 4-0. Dieterich scored their first and only run in the sixth inning as Altamont went on to claim the 4-1 win.

Today at the tournament, WSS and Altamont will battle at 4:15 in the tournament’s first Championship semifinal game while also at 4:15, SEB will take on Dieterich in the Consolation Semifinals. South Central will face St. Anthony at 6:00pm in the tournament’s second Championship Semifinal game. All tournament games are played at Evergreen Park in Effingham.
