Just a day after the IHSA released all official schedules for the upcoming football season, Vandalia’s Week 9 opponent has announced that they will forgo a Varsity season. On Thursday, Litchfield Panther Football posted on their Facebook page that due to a low number of upperclassmen that they would not have a Varsity season but would play a JV season. After the announcement was made, Vandalia Football Coach Jason Clay when asked about the situation stated that there are different scenarios that could play out moving forward. Teams can either take the game as a forfeit or could schedule a new opponent to fill the spot. With the situation newly developing, schools looking for new opponents will be working fast as the new football calendar this year has official practice starting on August 5 and Week One of the season will be a week sooner with first games able to be held on Thursday, August 20.
