Vandalia junior sprinter/mid-distance runner Nic Jackson capped off his 2026 season with a 12th place finish in the 800m Run at the IHSA 1A Boys Track State Finals on Saturday afternoon at Eastern Illinois University. Jackson ran a time of 1:58.74 which was a personal best time and also broke the school record in the event for the third time this year. Jackson broke the previous school record of 2:01.22 held by Wade Cowger since 2013 during the IHSA 1A Sectional Meet at Newton on May 20, running a new record time of 2:00.65, and then broke his own record during the State Prelims on Thursday running a time of 1:59.05 before breaking it one final time for the season on Saturday. Jackson was a first time IHSA state qualifier this season, as he made an IHSA State Finals for the first time since taking 4th place in the 1600m Run at the IESA State Track Meet as an eighth grader in 2023.
