South Central was able to stake themselves an early 2-0 lead but were held scoreless the rest of the way as the Lady Cougars fell to Casey-Westfield 6-2 in the semifinals of the Casey-Westfield 1A Sectional on Tuesday. After getting two baserunners aboard via a pair of walks, Lauren Johnson sacrificed to core Perci Reid to put South Central up 1-0 in the top of the first inning. After taking advantage of a walk to lead off the top of the second inning, a two out line drive single by Zoey Feldhake scored Maddie Peddicord from second base as the Lady Cougars lead was edged out to 2-0 midway through the second inning. Casey-Westfield cut the South Central lead in half though in the bottom of the second inning with fielder’s choice as the Lady Cougars led by just o a run, 2-1, at the end of the second inning. After the Lady Warriors faced the minimum number of batters in the top of the third, Casey-Westfield was able to take advantage of a South Central error and a wild pitch to take the lead, 3-2, and it would hold until the bottom of the fifth inning. With the Lady Cougars struggling offensively through the middle innings, the Warriors were able to build on their lead with a pair of RBI singles and an RBI double pushing three runs across the plate as Casey-Westfield went up 6-2 at the end of the fifth. South Central was able to put a baserunner on in the top of the sixth on a single by Johnson and again in the top of the seventh when Feldhake reached on an error, but the Lady Cougars were unable to generate any runs late as Casey-Westfield closed out the 6-2 win. South Central ends their season at 17-14. Casey-Westfield will play for the championship of their own Sectional on Friday.
