BSE Comes up Short in Loss to Cisne


The Brownstwon/St. Elmo Bombers had the tying run on third base in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn’t come through, falling to the Cisne Runnin’ Lions 8-7 on Wednesday. The Bombers scored first in the bottom of the second inning when Jayce Gillespie singled to score Nolan Wilhour and Lucas Powell, giving BSE a 2-0 lead. BSE added a run in the bottom of third inning when Powell advanced on an error allowing Wilhour to score, extending the lead to 3-0. The Lions scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning, before adding a pair in the top of the fifth to take a 4-2 lead. The Bombers wasted no time tying the game in the bottom of the fifth when Wilhour reached on an error to score Calvin Voelker, tying the game at 4. Cisne took the lead with a 40run top of the seventh inning to take an 8-4 lead. BSE loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh with a pair of walks and a single, before a pair of passed balls and an error cut the deficit to 8-7. The Bombers were unable to get the tying run across the plate however, falling to Cisne 8-7. The loss drops BSE to 9-10 on the season. The Bombers will be on the road Thursday to wrap up the regular season with Cumberland.
