Vandals Fall to Carlyle


The Vandalia Vandals allowed 4 runs in the top of the fifth inning, and couldn’t keep up, falling to the Carlyle Indians 6-4 on Tuesday. Carlyle took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning, before an RBI single from Andrew Casey tied the game in the bottom of the third. An RBI single gave the Indians a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth, but the Vandals responded in the bottom of the fourth when Jack Lewis singled to score Ayden Carroll to tie the game at 2. Singles from Casey and Chase Cearlock gave the Vandals a 4-2 lead, but the lead was short-lived, as Carlyle responded with a 4-run fifth inning to take a 6-4 lead. Vandalia was held to just two baserunners in the remaining three innings, falling to Carlyle 6-4. The loss drops the Vandals to 13-18 on the season. Vandalia will be on the road on Friday to wrap up the regular season, taking on Lincolnwood.
