Vandals Comeback Attempt Falls Short in Loss to Flora

The Vandalia Vandals attempted a late rally to cut their deficit to 3, but couldn’t overcome a 4-run second inning, and three errors, falling to the Flora Wolves 8-5 on Saturday. The Wolves broke the scoreless tie in the top of the second inning, scoring 4 runs in the frame, before taking two on in the third inning to take a 6-0 lead. The Vandals got on the board in the bottom of the third inning, loading the bases on three consecutive singles before an Andrew Casey walk gave Vandalia their first run of the game. Kohnor Depew scored on a passed ball, cutting the deficit to 6-2. Flora got a run back on an RBI groundout in the top of the fourth, making the score 7-2. That score held until the bottom of the fifth inning, when a bases-loaded walk from Ayden Carroll and a groundout from Qwentyn Stombaugh cut the deficit to 7-4. Flora got a run back in the top of the 6th to make it 8-4, but Chase Cearlock responded with an RBI single, cutting the Wolves lead to 8-5.
