South Central Scores Early and Often in Win Over OPS

The South Central Cougars jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and never looked back, coming away with an 11-8 win over the Patoka/Odin/Sandoval Eagles on Saturday night. Before the game, the 2021 championship team was recognized in honor of the 5th anniversary of their State Championship win. Hudson Moore got the Cougars on the board in the top of the first inning with an RBI single, making the score 1-0. Ryker Dodson scored on a wild pitch, and a double steal allowed Moore to score, extending the South Central lead to 3-0. The Cougars added to their lead in the bottom of the second inning when Aiden Hoover reached on an error to score Dodson, and a Colton Tockstein single scored Moore, making the lead 5-0. A bases-loaded walk gave OPS their first run of the game, but South Central got that run back in the bottom of the third when an error allowed Eli Hiestand to score, extending the lead to 6-1. The Cougars added a run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI groundout from Hoover, before the Eagles added a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 7-3. A 3-run sixth inning from OPS made the score 7-6, before the Cougars broke the game open with a 4-run sixth inning, highlighted by a pair of RBI singles from Hiestand, Dodson, and Moore, pushing their lead to 11-6. The Eagles scored a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning, but South Central shut the door, securing the 11-8 win. The Cougars are now 8-19 on the season. South Central will be back home on Tuesday to take on CHBC.
