The South Central Cougars were one out away from victory, but couldn’t hang on, falling to the Dieterich Moovin’ Maroon 3-2 on Thursday night. A passed ball allowed Luke Shumate to score, giving the Cougars an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. South Central added on to their lead in the bottom of the second when Shumate reached on a bases loaded walk, extending their lead to 2-0. Dieterich got on the board with an RBI double to make the score 2-1 in the top of the third inning. That score held until the top of the seventh inning, when the Maroons got a 2-out 2-RBI single to take a 3-2 lead. The Cougars were set down in order in the bottom half of the inning, falling to Dieterich 3-2. The loss drops South Central to 7-19 on the season. The Cougars will be back home on Saturday, taking on Odin/Patoka/Sandoval at 6PM, with the 2021 Cougars team being recognized before the game in honor of the 5-year anniversary of their State Championship win.
