SEB Uses Five-Run Fourth Inning to Fuel Comeback Win Over Oblong

SEB softball trailed 6-2 after three innings, but a five-run fourth inning flipped the momentum and the Lady Eagles rode it to a 9-7 win over Oblong at home on Thursday. After the Panthers were able to put take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, SEB answered right back in the bottom of the first. Dayana Haslett singled and advanced to second base on an error and went to third on a wild pitch before Izzy Orr walked and advanced to second on defensive indifference to put two runners in scoring position. Alivia Claycomb singled to score Haslett and during the play, an error allowed Orr to score as well to tie the game up at 2-2. The tie was broken up by Oblong in the top of the third inning as they put four more runs on the scoreboard to go up 6-2, but that lead held for just an inning as SEB got things moving right away in the bottom of the fifth inning. Macey Sapp singled to lead off and Auni Wollin drove her in on a line drive double to left field to cut the game to 6-3. Then with two outs in the inning, a walk drawn by Kadence Speagle put runners at first and second as Cami Haslett had walked earlier in the inning. D. Haslett stepped to the plate and sent a big line drive to center field for a triple that scored C. Haslett and Speagle to cut the Oblong lead down further to just one run, 6-5. After Orr walked to put runners at the corners again, Brooklyn Landrus doubled to center field to score D. Haslett and give SEB the lead 7-6. Martinsville scored their final run of the game in the top of the fifth to tie the game up at 7-7, but again, the Lady Eagles came up big in the bottom of the sixth inning. With runners at second and third, Landrus scored on a passed ball and then Wollin singled to bring in A. Claycomb as SEB took the lead at 9-7. Martinsville drew two walks to lead off the top of the seventh inning but the Lady Eagles got three straight outs to close out the win. SEB moves to 9-14 on the season and will be back in action this Saturday as they compete in the Egyptian Illini Conference Softball Tournament in Greenville.
