Vandalia was held to just four hits and tallied six errors in a tough 10-0 shutout loss to Staunton in South Central Conference action on home on Monday. Staunton took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning but Vandalia was held to just a single by Mady McCall as they trailed at the end of the inning. The Bulldogs pushed their lead out to 6-0 in the second before adding on a run in the third and three more in the fourth to take a 10-0 lead. The Lady Vandals got their second hit of the game early in the bottom of the fourth as Elainia Hagy led off with a single before she was caught trying to advance to second. McCall then reached base on an error and Katy Sefton singled to put two runners on base for Vandalia for the first time in the game but a strikeout and a lineout ended the inning and the Vandalia scoring threat. Still trailing 10-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Vandalia’s final hit of the game came from Makenzie Willenborg with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning, but she was stranded on base to end the game after a strike out and a ground out ended the Lady Vandals chances the break up the shutout. Vandalia is now 5-16 on the season and will play at home again today as they host Ramsey.
