South Central and Dieterich matched each other through the first five innings of the game, but a three-run sixth inning pushed the Maroons ahead by three runs and the Lady Cougars suffered a 7-3 loss in the Consolation game of the National Trail Conference Softball Tournament on Friday. Dieterich took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning and pushed their lead to 3-0 midway through the fourth inning. South Central would have two-run fourth as well with a single to center field scoring Kinlee Thompson and Lauren Johnson to pull the Lady Cougars to within a run 3-2. South Central then added a run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Thompson that drove in Amelia Montes to tie the game up at 3-3. Dieterich however broke the tie in the top of the sixth inning putting three runs on the board to pull ahead 6-3. The Lady Cougars made contact with the ball in the bottom of the inning but they were sat down on a pair of ground outs and a fly out. The Maroons added one more run on in the top of the seventh to extend their lead to 7-3 but South Central could not match it as they grounded out twice to the pitcher and once to the shortstop in the bottom of the inning to suffer the 7-3 loss. South Central is now stands at 11-11 on the season and after having the weekend off, will play every day Monday through Thursday next week beginning with a road game at Christ Our Rock on Monday.
