Vandals Can't Overcome Late Rally in Loss to Litchfield


The Vandalia Vandals allowed 4 runs in the last two innings of play on Thursday, falling to the Litchfield Purple Panthers 8-5. Litchfield scored two runs in the first, and one in the second, taking an early 3-0 lead. Qwentyn Stombaugh scored on a balk, before an RBI single from Jack Lewis, and a Drew Jones sacrifice fly tied the game at 3. A 2-RBI double from Kohnor Depew would give the Vandals a 5-3 lead. Litchfield got a run back in the fourth inning, before scoring a run in the fifth inning, to tie the game at 1. The Panthers used a 3-run sixth inning to take an 8-3 lead, and the Vandals would be kept off the board in the top of the seventh, falling to Litchfield 8-5. The loss drops Vandalia to 13-13 on the season. The Vandals will be back at home on Monday to take on Dieterich in a doubleheader.
