Altamont softball picked up a dominant 11-1 win over North Clay in the second play-in game of the National Trail Conference Tournament on Friday, lead by 3-3 days at the plate from Haley Arend and Alyssa Ruholl as they drove in half of the Lady Indians runs in the game. The first inning went by scoreless but Altamont started moving their offense in the bottom of the second inning with back-to-back RBI singles from Jocelyn Peacy and Arend driving in Altamont’s first two runs of the game before a triple from Ruholl scored another run and Avery Fleeharty added on an RBI single herself for a 4-0 Altamont lead. North Clay was able to get one run back in the top of the third inning, making it 4-1, but that would be their only run of the game. The Lady Indians tacked on three runs in the third inning on an error by the Cardinals and on an inside the park home run by Laila Hankins that scored two runs pushing the Altamont lead to 7-1. An inning later, Sophia Long an inside the park home run of her own to extend the lead to 8-1. A triple by Arend scored two more runs and Ruholl singled to bring in the final run of the game for Altamont making it 11-1. The Lady Indians then held North Clay scoreless again in the top of the fifth inning to close out the win. Altamont is now 8-13 on the season and will play in the quarterfinals of the tournament on Monday at 6:15pm against #2 seed Cumberland.
