Vandals Knock Off BSE Behind Complete Game Shutout From Stombaugh


Kohnor Depew came within a home run of the cycle, and Qwentyn Stombaugh pitched a three-hit shutout on the way to a 6-0 win over the Brownstown/St. Elmo Bombers on Thursday. The Vandals got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Depew led off with a triple, and came around to score on a Jack Lewis sacrifice fly, giving the Vandals a 1-0 lead. Vandalia tacked on a run in the third inning when Depew singled and later came around to score on an error, extending the lead to 2-0. The Vandals broke the game open in the fifth inning when Depew scored on a double steal, and Lewis scored on a passed ball, pushing the lead to 4-0. Chase Cearlock capped off the scoring on an RBI single, making the score 5-0. The Vandals got an insurance run in the sixth inning, and Stombaugh would keep the Bombers off the board, securing the 6-0 win. The win improves the Vandals to 11-11 on the season. Vandalia will be back home Friday to take on Carlinville. The Bombers fall to 6-8 on the year. BSE will be back home on Monday to take on WSS.
