After a quick change of their original scheduled opponent for Tuesday, Altamont softball met up with Neoga for a battle of Indian mascots in National Trail Conference play. After a scoreless first inning, Altamont got a leadoff triple from Sophia Long and the next batter Laila Hankins drove her in with a bunt single for a 1-0 lead. Hankins then stole second and advanced to third base before scoring on an error by the Neoga catcher to push the Altamont lead to 2-0. Neoga cut the Altamont lead in half with a run in the top of the fourth inning, making it 2-1. After going scoreless for three innings, Altamont got back on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning when a single from Long scored Ella Nelson from second to push Altamont’s lead to 3-1. That would hold as the final score as Altamont was able to get three straight Neoga batters out by a pair of strikeouts and a pop out in the top of the seventh inning. With the win, Altamont improves to 6-13 overall and evens up their conference record to 4-4. They will wrap up regular season conference play on Thursday at St. Anthony before beginning NTC Tournament play on Friday when they host North Clay in one of the tournament’s two play-in games.
