CHBC Edges Out SEB for 12-11 Win in Dual Conference Softball Battle

CHBC and SEB combined for 28 hits in a dual conference shootout that saw the Lady Bobcats get a slim 12-11 win over the Lady Eagles on Thursday in Beecher City. SEB was able to grab a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning with back-to-back RBI singles from Izzy Orr and Auni Wollin with CHBC able to get one run back in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from Harper Lilly that cut the Lady Eagles lead down to 3-1 to end the inning. SEB kept pushing in the second inning and a triple from Dayana Haslett and a single by Macey Sapp pushed brought two runs in to extend their lead to 5-1. Again, like the first inning, CHBC was able to get one run back in the bottom of the second on a wild pitch to cut the Eagles lead to 5-2. CHBC held SEB scoreless in the third inning and gave themselves a chance to cut into the SEB lead and did just that using an RBI single from Ryleigh Sarver and a pair of RBI groundouts to score three runs and tie the game up at 5-5. The Lady Eagles kept their offense moving and tacked on two fourth inning runs to regain the lead and held it at the end of the inning, 6-5, as the Lady Bobcats added on just one run in the bottom half of the inning. SEB was able to push their lead out to 8-6 midway through the fifth inning but CHBC again tied the game up at 8-8 on a pair of RBI singles from Lyric Bennett and Carissa Wakefield. The Lady Bobcats then held SEB scoreless in the top of the sixth inning and regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth on an Eagle error, going up 9-8 to start the seventh inning. Not giving up their fight, SEB kept battling and with two outs in the top of the seventh and got RBI singles from Sapp and Orr that pushed three runs across the plate for an 11-9 SEB lead. Not to be outdone by the Lady Eagles, CHBC took advantage of a pair of SEB errors to load the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh. Lilly then stepped up and hit a double to center field that scored two runs to tie the game up at 11-11 before the senior Sarver came to the plate and singled to center field to bring in Shields and give the Bobcats the 12-11 walk-off win. CHBC improves to 2-12 on the season and 2-5 in the National Trail Conference and 1-0 in the Egyptian Illini Conference. They will be back in action Tuesday for an NTC matchup against Dieterich.
