Lady Vandals Unleash Bats to Beat North Mac for Third Win Overall and First SCC Win of the Season

Vandalia softball tallied 13 hits, five of them extra base hits, as they scored steadily and beat North Mac 18-4 on Tuesday for their third win of the season and their first South Central Conference win of the Spring. Vandalia jumped on the Panthers early with a four-run first inning including two runs coming in on a double to left field by Ollie Whitehead to go up 4-0. North Mac was able to get back three of those runs, cutting Vandalia’s lead down to a run, 4-3. The Vandals used a bases loaded walk, a wild pitch, a sacrifice fly by Briley Sefton and an RBI single from Katy Sefton to put up four more runs and push their lead out to 8-3. Vandalia took advantage of several North Mac errors in the top of the third inning and used a solo home run by Elaina Hagy and another RBI double from Whitehead to tack six more runs up on the scoreboard as they busted the game open and went up 14-3. A 2-RBI single by B. Sefton who then scored on a wild pitch herself put Vandalia up 17-3 midway through the fourth inning before the Lady Vandals closed their scoring in the top of the fifth with an RBI double by Bella Walk for an 18-3 lead. North mac was able to score one final run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 18-4 but the early damage was done by the Lady Vandals as they secured the run rule win. Vandalia is now 3-11 on the season and 1-3 in the SCC. They will be on the road again on Thursday when they play at Altamont.
