South Central Can't Get Past Rough Second Inning in Loss to T-Town

South Central softball could not get past three errors and seven runs given up in the second inning as the Lady Cougars lost to Teutopolis 9-3 at home on Monday. The teams were each held scoreless in the first inning with South Central putting two runners on base, but stranding them in the bottom half of the inning. The Wooden Shoes would jumpstart their offense in the second inning though, combining a pair of home runs with a pair of singles and taking advantage of three South Central errors to score seven runs for a 7-0 lead. South Central threatened in the bottom of the third inning as they loaded the bases up with two outs, but a strikeout ended the inning. The Lady Cougars threatened once more an inning later with runners at second and third with two outs but a strikeout again ended the inning and stranded the runners. South Central broke through in the bottom of the fifth inning though after a single by Amelia Montes to lead off the inning followed by a hit by pitch of Maddie Peddicord put runners at first and second. A line drive single by Kinlee Thompsin allowed Montes to score from second for the Lady Cougars first run. Lauren Johnson then grounded into a fielder’s choice to score Peddicord and to cut the T-Town lead down to 7-2. A two out single by Zoey Feldhake brought in one more run in the inning as South Central trailed 7-3 at the end of the fifth. The Shoes were able to tack on two more runs in the top of the sixth inning to push their lead back out to six runs, 9-3, which would hold as the final score as South Central suffered the home loss. The Lady Cougars are now 8-7 on the season and will have today off before hosting Ramsey on Wednesday.
