Vandals Get SCC Win Over Hillsboro


The Vandalia Vandals got out to a 4-0 start and never looked back, coming away with a 10-0 win over the Hillsboro Hilltoppers. The Vandals wasted no time getting the bats going in the bottom of the first inning, when a Jack Lewis single scored Kohnor Depew to give the Vandals a 1-0 lead. Andrew Casey would drive in Lewis on a single of his own to push the lead to 2-0, before RBI singles from Chase Cearlock and Qwentyn Stombaugh would give Vandalia a 4-0 lead. The Vandals would add to their lead in the bottom of the second inning when Trenton Smith reached on an error allowing Lewis to score making the lead 5-0. Cearlock would then single to score Smith extending the lead to 6-0. Vandalia would add a run in the bottom of the third when Depew reached on an error allowing Adam Buscher to come home and make the score 7-0. The Vandals would add a run in the bottom of the fourth inning on a fielder’s choice, before scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth, putting the 10-run rule into affect, securing the 10-0 victory. The win improves the Vandals to 10-7 on the season, and 1-2 in SCC play. Vandalia will be on the road on Tuesday for a SCC matchup with North Mac.
