South Central Falls to Flora in Wooden Bat Tournament

The South Central Cougars had the tying run on base in the bottom of the seventh inning, but could not come through, falling to the Flora Wolves 5-4 in the South Central Wood Bat Tournament. Flora would open up the game with a 4-run first inning, but the Cougars would begin to chip away at the deficit with a solo home run from Ryker Dodson to make the score 4-1. That score would hold until the top of the third inning, when the Wolves would get a run back to extend their lead to 5-1. South Central would cut into the Flora lead in the bottom of the third inning when a back-to-back doubles from Hudson Moore and Dodson would make the score 5-2. A fielder’s choice from Garrett Shumate would score Dodson, cutting Flora’s lead to 5-3. That score would remain until the bottom of the seventh inning, when the Cougars made things interesting, when Moore reached on an error, and Eli Hiestand doubled to put the tying run in scoring position with nobody out. Aiden Hoover would ground into a fielders choice allowing Moore to score, cutting the deficit to 5-4, but South Central was unable to get the tying run across, falling to the Wolves 5-4. The loss drops the Cougars to 4-9 on the season. South Central will finish up their Wood Bat Tournament taking on Woodlawn at 10 AM, and North Clay at 4 PM.
